No.33 is a 0-8-2 rack rail side tank steam locomotive.

History[]

No.33 was built in Switzerland in 1906 by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine works (SLM) as builders number 1743 for the French Damas, Hamah et Prolongements railway (DHP) which ran through multiple countries in the middle-east. The four lines in Lebanon that were part of DHP would become the Lebanese State Railways (French: Chemin de Fer de l'État Libanais aka CEL) in 1960/61.[1][2][3]

Where No.33 retained it's DHP number and A classification and would continue to operate under CEL on the rack railway until the 1970s. When steam was slowly being fazed out in favor of diesel or electric although this progress was heavily hindered due to the poor condition of the network. No.33 was left behind a shed with other members of it's class in Rayak where it currently remains is a derelict state.[1][2][3]
