No.32 is a rack rail 0-8-2 side tank steam locomotive.


History[]

No.32 was built by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works in 1906 as builders number 1742 for Damas, Hamah and Extensions (French: Damas, Hamah et Prolongements) also known as DHP was a French railway company which operated a large railway network in the middle-east.[1][2][3][4][5]

In 1960/61 the Lebanese section of the DHP network comprising of four lines became the Lebanese State Railways or CEL (French: Chemins de fer de l’Etat Libanais). No.32 retained it's DHP number and continued to operate as a rack rail locomotive until around the 1970s when steam was slowly fazed out during the railways decline. No.32 is know located in Saadnayel on display with a coach at the adequately named Old Train Station Park.[1][2][3][4][5]


Trivia[]

  • No.32 is one of the few Lebanese locomotives of any kind currently on display.
    • Due to this it is one of the more well-known locomotives of Lebanon.
