Burlington Northern No. 7041 is an EMD SD40-2 that was built by General-Motors Electro-Motive Division originally for the Burlington Northern Railroad in February 1978.

History[]

Burlington Northern No. 7041 was manufactured in February 1978 by General-Motors Electro-Motive Division and it entered service on Burlington Northern that same year in 1978. It retained its number of #7041 for another seventeen years straight until December 31, 1996, when Burlington Northern had merged with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to form BNSF. After the Burlington Northern Railroad had merged with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to form the BNSF Railway, #7041 kept its number until 2012, when it was renumbered by BNSF to #1786.
