Burlington Northern No. 5383 is a U-30C type diesel locomotive built by General Electric (GE) in October 1974 for the Burlington Northern Railroad (BN). After its retirement from the BN in 1988, it was eventually donated in 1994 to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL and started operating short excursion trains on the museum grounds. It was later taken out of service temporarily due to a faulty traction motor, but eventually returned to service in July 2010, complete with a fresh coat of cascade green and white paint.
As of today, it is one of several operable diesels at the Illinois Railway Museum, some of which include AT&SF FP45 No. 92, CB&Q SD24 No. 504, C&NW SD40-2 No. 6847, SP SD7 No. 1518, and UP Dash 8-40B No. 1848, among others.
