The BR Class 158 "Express Sprinter" is a DMU built by BREL (British Rail Engineering Limited) between 1989-1992.

Design[]

The 158 was designed to take over from the "Heritage" DMUs on British railways. The set was made up of two cars, both of which were powered through advanced bogies by 350 to 400 horse-power diesel motors. They are best suited to medium distance runs, but perform well on long distance runs as well. They are very comfortable compared to other Sprinters.
