An old forlorn looking ruston sitting at a depot.
During the 1950s Bord na Móna found themselves in need of more powerful locomotives, they had to design it in house as there were none readily available. Later they settled on Ruston and Hornsby to build their fleet of locomotives.
Technical Data[]
The locomotives used the same 80h.p ford engine as was used in the Wagonmasters, however rather than using a diesel hydraulic transmission the ford engine simply drove a connecting rod attatched to the rear wheels with the front wheels connected with a coupling rod.
Career[]
While the bulk of the Rustons have been withdrawn a few locos are still used to pull various things from work site to work site such as fuel oil or even crew mess vans.
