Bessemer and Lake Erie No. 643 is a Class H1 2-10-4 "Texas" type steam locomotive.
History[]
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1944 for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, it was used primarily for hauling heavy mainline freight trains in Pennsylvania and Ohio, until retirement in 1952, and later it was sold for scrapyard to be cut up for scrap.
After when it was saved from scrap, and after years of neglect while facing an uncertain future, it was bought by the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, Ohio, where it is planned (and it is to be hoped) to be put on display.
