The Baltimore & Ohio V Class were a series of four 4-6-4 "Hudson" type locomotives built for the Baltimore & Ohio in its own shops and were used for passenger services. They were built with water-tube fireboxes and a British-styled smoke box dart on the centre of the door (which was removed a few years later and replaced with the B&O herald). Each locomotive had a unique design, and so were divided in four classes.
The first was a 1933 rebuild of P1c "Pacific" number 5047, and was classified V1. This "new" engine appeared to be successful, and was used on the Cumberland, Pittsburgh and Akron divisions until its retirement in 1950.
The second was a brand-new engine, class V2, numbered 2 and named "Lord Baltimore", which was built for the brand new, lightweight "Royal Blue" train.
