Bladwin 608 is an ex-War Department Light Railways (WDLR) Baldwin Class 10-12-D narrow gauge 4-6-0PT pannier tank steam locomotive that currently runs on the Ffestiniog Railway and Welsh Highland Railway.

Operational history[]

Baldwin 1058 (WDLR 608) was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in the USA in 1917. It was one of a total of 495 locomotives built to the order of the UK Ministry of Munitions that served in France prior to being shipped to India where it initially worked on British Army supply lines during the First World War.

After the war it was transferred to the North Western Railway of India (where it ran as NWR 45) for further use by the British Army before being sold to sugar factories in Daurala and Ryam where it continued to work until the early 1990's.

Preservation[]

608 was subsequently purchased for preservation and brought back to the UK where it was moved to a private workshop in Lancashire for restoration.

It arrived on the F&WHR in October 2019 and made its debut on the F&WHR in November 2019 and has continued to run on these two railways ever since.

Trivia[]
