The British Railways (BR) Standard Class 5MT No. 73082 Camelot is a type of 4-6-0, steam locomotive built at the Derby Locomotive Works, and delivered on June 1955 for the Southern Region of British Railways.
The Best of...No. 73082 "Camelot"
It was used to haul passenger, and freight trains when it worked on the Southern Region of British Railways.
On June 19, 1966, it was retired and sent to Woodham Brothers for scrapping. It languished at Barry Docks until 1979 when purchased by the 73082 Camelot Locomotive Society, and moved to the Bluebell Railway for restoration alongside Battle of Britain Pacific 34059 Sir Archibald Sinclair.
Today the locomotive is restored, and operational on the Bluebell Railway.
Trivia[]
- The whistle was featured in the Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter film franchise by recording the whistle from the Camelot for the GWR No. 5972 "Olton Hall" when it played the role as the "Hogwarts Express". Both locomotives have an 4-6-0 wheel arrangement.
- The whistle of this engine was also used in LMS Jubilee Class 5690 Leander and LNER A1 60163 Tornado also one of the LNER Peppercorn Class A1.
- In August 1959, it received the name Camelot from withdrawn Urie King Arthur Class engine no. 30742.
- It returned to steam in 1995 after a protracted overhaul at Sheffield Park and put in almost ten years of service on the Bluebell Railway until withdrawal for a ten year overhaul in June 2005.
- The Camelot returned to service on the Bluebell Railway for the second time on October 25, 2015.
- The Camelot has cameoed in the Disney 2000 film 102 Dalmatians alongside with the Flying Scotsman but it had the whistle of the Southern Railway No. 630.
- Camelot also cameoed in the MGM 2005 war film "Flyboy"s, but it was disguised as "Union Pacific 2759"
