Alberni Pacific 2

Alberni Pacific No. 2 is a two-truck Shay steam locomotive built by Lima in 1912 for the Weist Logging Co., and operated as No. 1 in Port Alberni. Between 1918 and 1950, it was operated as Alberni Pacific Lumber Co., Ltd. #2, in Franklin River.

The Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society acquired the Lima 42 ton 2-truck Shay in 1984, and is currently restoring it.

Today it is on display on special occasions at the Alberni Pacific Railway.

Trivia[]

  • It no longer holds pressure due to boiler problems.
  • The Alberni Pacific Railway are currently not planning to operate No. 2 in 2024, however, the team is hard at work to restore operations. As of September 2023, the Industrial Heritage Society (the operators of the Alberni Pacific Railway) has met with City Council about plans to restore the Alberni Pacific Railway's waterside track to add to the town's Quay-To-Quay project, however, due to insurance complications with the Alberni Pacific Railway and the city's insurance providers, efforts are currently underway to resume tourist operations with Alberni Pacific No. 7 in 2024.
  • Alberni Pacific No. 2 is currently planned to be used as a static display, however, the Alberni Pacific Railway's roundhouse is also undergoing refurbishment to serve as a museum space, as well as major renovations to the tracks.
