The 62 series was a Japanese commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Japanese National Railways from 1943 to 1970.

The 62 series was an early electric multiple unit used in Japan. The type was created by converting older wooden-bodied cars dating from the early 1900s into steel-bodied cars. The first batch of what would become 62 series cars were converted from six MoHa 10 and KuHa 17 series cars; originally proposed in 1942, the onset of World War II would mean that the cars would not actually be converted until 1943. Conversion was done at Ōi Works in Tokyo; the class entered service in 1943, specifically for use on longer-distance services on the Minobu Line which had just been acquired by the JNR. The class was divided into the MoHa 62 intermediate cars and the KuHa 77 cab cars.
Between 1949 to 1951, eight 30 and 50 series cars were modified to become additional cars for the 62 series. With the revision of naming regulations in July 1953, the cars were reclassified; the MoHa 62 series cars became the MoHa 14 series cars and the KuHa 77 series cars became the KuHa 18 series cars. A second naming regulation enacted in June 1959 had the MoHa 14 series cars become the KuMoHa 14 series cars. Mass withdrawals of the class occurred starting 1966, with all withdrawn by 1970. MoHa 14100 was transferred to the Seibu Railway in 1959, becoming MoHa 352, while KuHa 18053 was transferred to the Izuhakone Railway, renumbered KuHa 26 and used until the 1980s.
No 62 series cars have been preserved. The later 62 series cars, essentially 72 series cars with updated bodywork resembling the 113 and 115 series trains are unrelated to these trains apart from name.

The 62 series cars had the same basic design as older railcars used by the JNR network. They were converted to use steel bodies from older wooden-bodied railcars used in the 1910s and 1920s.
